![]() scratchbuilt from styrene and added antennas from wire.įinal piece of the puzzle, a couple of NOS tanks from Jason arrived today. F/N There are some fans who maintain the ECTO-1A is the original ECTO-1, just modified. i cut it into piecesĪnd reassembled it with a small step under the license plate There are six blue spotlights, two in front of the windshield. i didn't use all the bumper, as the convertible taillights are different. i got a rear bumper from a sedan caddillac and used it to correct the part. i filled 7 holes and removed 8 mounting pointsĪnd then repainted the roof and rear quarter panelįor ecto-1A, AMT used the full-width step rear bumper, which wasn't on the first movie version. So i pulled the body apart and went back to fix those extra holes. It's amazing what a piece of foil behind the red lens does to the rear lightsīody assembled, then i realised i forgot to clean up the body of all the un-used attachment points You can see some of the completed tools.ĭash, i changed the square radar detector for a round one. This Ecto sold was not by any means a 100 screen accurate replica of 1a (still an awesome car), and is the correct 1959 Miller. Not often you see replicas of Ecto-1a from Ghosbusters 2. An Ecto-1a replica sold recently via Mecum Auctions for 220,000. I ended up cutting out the entire floor out of the rack and replaced it. Brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end. also i added some missing support bars on the back of the rack. I also cut off the two ends that hold the light bars and big tank (not needed). I started by grinding out the filled in sides of the roof rack, and eventually decided to cut the Freon tanks off as well. I accurised the roof rack, but decided not to bother (atm) with the interior. it seems they based these decals on the replica ecto-1 that was built for Universal Studios tour, which they took a lot of liberties with and is not screen accurate. I supplemented the build with a JT Graphics Ecto-1 decal sheet, but these quickly looked a bit dodgey. It includes the decals for ecto-1, but none of the parts  I'm basing my build on the restored original Ecto-1. There are some fit issues with the rear bumper/tail lights, but other than that it was a decent kit. Here it is next to my Ecto-1A for comparison. Easy to screw up and difficult to correct. I based the changes on the restored E1 photos on, which has a nice 250 pictures of the restored car. i modified the rack to correct the equipment. I'll post pictures of the painted roof Rack tomorrow.I finished up the Caddy from Ghostbusters 1 movie. I'll be happy to answer questions to the best of my ability. That's cool! I was thinking of doing the same thing but make it more movie accurate to the Ecto 1.Īfter seeing this, I may go ahead and do it soon. I'll post some pictures of that one when it's done. I'm working on the police car from Live Free or Die Hard. I test things out on that before I start hacking into the final. It is actually a practice car for any project I work on. The Ecto-1A is a stunning re-creation of the car as it appears in Ghostbusters II and comes loaded to the roof rack with even more spirit. The light bars and arrowstick are all 1/18 scale. Ecto-1A‘s front doors and rear door open (downward like a ramp) to enter and exit the car. Note: Since Ecto-1A is built the same as Ecto-1, part of the write up is taken from my Ecto-1 write up. Since then other companies have made more accurate Ecto-1A toys. what on earth happened to that Police Car? Why the bullet holes? The decals are what turn Ecto-1 into Ecto 1A.
